Incident: PC 220 – Assault with intent to commit rape
Location: 300 Block of Western Avenue, Petaluma
Suspect(s): Hispanic Male Adult, 20’s to 30’s
Summary: On the listed date an adult female was walking alone in the 300 block of Western Avenue when she noticed a Hispanic male following her. The suspect caught up to the victim and pushed her into a nearby doorway. The victim fought back and began screaming which caught the attention of people in the downtown area. The suspect fled on foot and was pursued by several good samaritans, however they were not able to catch up to the suspect. Police officers searched the area on foot and with police dogs but did not locate the suspect.
This is an active investigation and no further details are being released at this time. This type of crime is unusual in Petaluma but this press release is intended to remind people to be vigilant about their personal safety at all times. The Police Department would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the attempted assault.
