Wednesday, October 5th, is international "Walk-to-School Day". The Louisiana "Safe Routes to Schools" organization encourages children to walk or bike to school, where possible, as a health and fitness initiative.

West Monroe Police Officers, along with Louisiana State Troopers will be assisting schools and organizations throughout the state with "Walk-to-School" programs this week. Officers & Troopers will be providing educational presentations in the classrooms and, in some areas, walking with kids to provide "in the field" training as they walk to school.

This morning West Monroe Police Officers along with LA State Police Troop-F Troopers walked students from designated areas in their neighborhoods to Riverbend Elementary School.
