For Immediate Release/Broadcast
DATE: October 4, 2011
Report Number: 11-4726
Occurred Date and Time: Between Friday night and Saturday morning on October 1
Incident: Theft of copper wire
Location: Prince Park-2300 block of East Washington Street
Summary: On the listed date and time, a citizen reported that the electrical wire was stolen and several of the electrical boxes were damaged at Prince Park. Six poles that provide lighting for the athletic fields had the copper electrical wire removed. The wire was also removed that connected the light poles. There was between 1500-1800 feet of wire taken. The theft also caused the two red beacon lights on top of two 85’ poles to not work. The beacons let aircraft from the nearby Petaluma Airport know that there is an obstruction in their flight path. The damage has also prevented night time softball games from taking place at Prince Park. City maintenance workers have estimated the cost to repair the damage at around $5000.00. Police are following up on a possible witness to the theft. If anyone observed a suspicious person or vehicle in the area, they can call Officer Pat Gerke at 707-778-4372.
