Cushing police visit Deep Rock Elementary with message about trust and more.

Cushing police made a special visit to both kindergarden classes at the Deep Rock Elementary School. Police were invited by Principal Teresa Shaffer.

Officer Lucas Armenta (pictured) spoke to the kids about being great listeners, keeping their hands to themselves and what it meant to be trusted. After the presentation, each student was given an opportunity to come forward and stand with Officer Armenta in recognition of their commitment to be trusted to honor what Officer Armenta talked to them about. Each student was then presented a sticker badge in recognition of their willingness to be trustworthy.

"It was great to come to Deep Rock and help both classes celebrate what it meant to be trusted," said Deputy Chief Tully Folden, a Deep Rock alum. "Character building begins at home, and when we can partner with the teachers to reinforce those values, we do it," he said. "Officer Armenta did a great job connecting with the kids during his presentation."

In addition to the badges that represented symbols of trust, Officer Armenta also presented both classes with coloring books, book markers, and emergency telephone contact cards that are designed for young kids. All of this is made possible by local businesses and individuals who make a commitment each year to support the National Drug Safety Council, a funding raising representative for the police department and provider of the materials given away.
