Statistics from "Operation Street Sweep" released.
(Oklahoma City) September 27, 2011 representatives from several law enforcement agenices including the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, Oklahoma City Police Department, and U.S. Marshal's Service released statistics related to "Operation Street Sweep". The operation focused on arresting violent gang members with active warrants.
U.S. Marshal Charles T. Weeks II said that the nearly 1 month long investigation netted a " Total of 101 gang arrests, 7027 grams of narcotics, and nearly $21,000.00 from dangerous felons."
Oklahoma County Sheriff John Whetsel said. "I appreciate the hard work put in by the men and women who conducted this operation. We were able to make the streets much safer for the local community."
This was the first multi-agency event ever held in Oklahoma County targeting gang members. In addition to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Attorney General's Office, The Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, U.S. Marshal's Service, Oklahoma City Police Department, and the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office all participated in the round up.
