Deputies arrest 4 for drug dealing and 1 for attempt rape/kidnap in 3 separate nearby Lancaster incidents

On Thursday, September 15, 2011, at 5:30 PM the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lancaster TOP (Target Oriented Policing) and CORE (Community Oriented Response and Enforcement) teams were conducting saturation patrol in the area of Kingtree Avenue and Avenue I in Lancaster. Three different incidents resulted in multiple arrests.

1. Deputies observed a drug deal taking place on Kingtree Avenue, just north of Avenue I, and arrested 47-year old Benny Johnson, a Black male, and 57-year old Debra Bevans, a Black female, for possession for sales of crack cocaine.

2. While investigating the first incident, Lancaster TOP/CORE deputies were flagged down by a 19-year old Hispanic female, who said she had just been attacked by a man behind “Cliff’s Liquor” as she walked to her car. She said a Hispanic male suspect grabbed her and tried to pull her into his car. She was able to pull away from the suspect and escaped to her friend’s car. Deputies found the suspect, Jorge Rivas, a 52-year old Hispanic male still in his car and pulling up his pants. The victim and witness positively identified the suspect, and he was arrested for attempted kidnapping and assault with intent to commit rape.

3. While investigating the second incident, Lancaster TOP/CORE deputies witnessed another drug deal take place at the back door of, “Famous Ink Tattoo Studio.” Deputies arrested Armen Gabriyelyan, a 32-year old Armenian-American male, and 20-year old Shaunt Shahini, a Hispanic male, for transportation/possession for sales of methamphetamine. Deputies recovered a large amount of methamphetamine inside the tattoo shop, and $2,000 cash.
