**UPDATE** El Monte PD Arrests Sex Offender/Parolee at Large who was subj of want alert yesterday.

From the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department:

Suspect Manual Rodriguez, a convicted sexual predator who absconded from paroled supervision on September 3, 2011, is back in custody after a sharp eyed Detective from the El Monte Police Department spotted him in a local shopping center.

Detective Peter Rasic from the El Monte Police Department arrested Suspect Manual Rodriguez while Rodriguez sat on a bench drinking coffee in the Valley Mall, a local shopping center in the City of El Monte. “I received a wanted bulletin vie email from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and decided to look for him.” Detective Rasic said.

It was approximately 2:40 PM on Friday, September 9, 2011, when Detective Rasic’s intuition told him to conduct a patrol check of a local shopping center. “I drove through the Valley Mall and saw a man sitting on a bench who closely resembled the picture in the bulletin. I contacted him and the man admitted he was Manuel Rodriguez.” Detective Rasic added that Rodriguez was still wearing the Global Positioning System Ankle Monitor at the time of his arrest, although the monitor battery was dead.

Thanks to the partnership between the El Monte Police Department and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (as well the many fine municipal police agencies throughout the county), the suspect is back in custody. Manual Rodriguez is currently being transferred to the custody of the Sheriff’s Department.

"Men and women who are on a parole or court ordered ankle monitoring program need to abide by the law and the privilege," said Captain Mike Parker, Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau. "Or the LA Sheriff's Department and all police agencies will work together to put them back in jail."
