Community

We encourage you to serve or support a cause on 9/11 as a way of paying tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11.

This year, we mark the 10th anniversary of September 11th. More than 1 million Americans are expected to serve in their communities in honor of this date. Service projects will range from food drives and home repairs to neighborhood cleanups and disaster preparation activities. In many areas, volunteers will honor veterans, soldiers, or first responders by collecting donations, assembling care packages, and writing thank you letters.

We encourage you to serve or support a cause on 9/11 as a way of paying tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11, and remembering the remarkable way that so many rose up in unity and service following the attacks. Here are some ways to get started:

• Search for opportunities on www.Serve.gov
• Organize your own service project using a serve.gov toolkit
• Share your story of service on the serve.gov Facebook wall

If you’re not able to take part in a service project, we invite community members to take a personal moment of silence to pay respect to the memory of those who died in these senseless attacks and pay tribute to those who rose in service in response to the tragedy.

America’s heart is its people. On behalf of all of us at Community Foundation of Greater South Wood County, thank you.

We at the Wood County Dispatch Center will be participating in a moment of silence at 8:59AM Central Daylight Time on 09/11/2011 and have asked other Public Service Agencies around Wisconsin to also do so.

As we approach the 10th anniversary of September 11th-the attack on America, it occurred to me that some special remembrance was in order. At 0959 Eastern (so 0859 here in Wisconsin) – the time most closely associated with the collapse of the first tower at the WTC – I am asking that all public safety agencies sound an alert tone and request a moment of silence in memory of the brave people who lost their lives that day. It doesn't cost anything to participate - and some folks do this on the 11th already. I think it would be wonderful if during the few days we have left before 9/11 we could organize this and take it statewide on the tenth anniversary.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET
