On August 31, 2011, President Obama declared portions of New Jersey, including all of Somerset County, a federal disaster area. Residents and business owners who experienced damage as a result of Hurricane Irene can begin applying for assistance by registering online at http://www.disasterassistance.gov/ , by web-enabled mobile device at m.fema.gov or by calling (800) 621-FEMA (3362).
