The Village of Westchester is inviting the community to participate in a special event!
Join us for on Sept 11th, 2011 for our first Silent Parade.
On September 11, 2001, our nation watched in horror as we witnessed domestic terrorism occur on our home soil. Thousands lost their lives that fateful day including many Fire Fighters and Police Officers. To honor those lost lives and those who continue to serve, the Village of Westchester will be hosting a Silent Parade of Fire and Police vehicles on September 11th, 2011, the Tenth Anniversary of 9/11..
A “silent” parade of Fire and Police Department vehicles from all over the Chicago land area will participate. The fire and police vehicles will only have their emergency lights activated, no sirens. The Village of Westchester would like to invite the residents of Westchester to attend by bringing a flashlight or candle to “light” the parade route.
Westchester along with the following communities of Hillside, Broadview, Forest Park, and Maywood are spearheading the silent parade. The parade will begin at approximately 7:15 pm in Forest Park at Roosevelt and Des Plaines Ave. It will continue westbound on Roosevelt to Mannheim, south to Dorchester and conclude with a memorial ceremony at St. Joseph High School, 10900 W. Cermak Road.
