Sheriff's Operation Safe Streets Bureau gang detectives received an investigative tip that Suspect Luis Placido was in illegal possession of several firearms.

Placido is a 31-year old admitted member of a local street gang and on parole for assaulting a police officer with a firearm.

Gang detectives assigned to the Century Sheriff’s Station team conducted a background check of Placido and confirmed that Placido was in fact on parole and recently released from prison. As a condition of his parole, Placido was confined to his home and ordered to wear a global positioning system sensor to his ankle.

With the permission of Placido’s parole agent, sheriff's detectives drove to Placido’s house on the 11200 block of Grape Street, South Los Angeles Thursday night, and made entry for purposes of searching the home in compliance with Placido’s conditions of parole.

Immediately after entering, the deputies found Placido in possession of an AK-47 assault rifle, a Ruger Mini-14 rifle (.223 caliber), a .45 caliber pistol and a .22 caliber pistol. There were numerous rounds for each weapon and spare magazines for both rifles, loaded with live rounds.

Placido was arrested and booked at the Century Regional Detention Facility of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Due to his parole status, he is being held without bail. The investigation into the origin of these weapons and how Placido came to possess them is ongoing.
