Filming and Construction of “Green” Home to Take Place in Lemont

The Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters’ Labor and Management Committee and Lakeshore Public Television have chosen the Briarcliffe Subdivision in Lemont as the location for a 13-week segment of the popular TV series Built to Last – The Green Home, showcasing construction of a sustainable residential house. The series will follow construction from the ground up by skilled Chicago-area carpenters that incorporates environmentally friendly materials, innovative technology and sustainable building techniques for residential housing that are not only “green,” but affordable.

A Public Information meeting announcing and providing details of the project will be held on July 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lemont Police Facility at 14600 127th Street. The public is invited to attend.

“We’re excited about this project coming to Lemont,” said Mayor Reaves. “Green housing is very topical and timely, and we look forward to working with Lakeshore and the Carpenters union in producing the documentary.”

“Viewers will enjoy having the opportunity from the comfort of their homes to be exposed to some of the processes involved with the building of a green home using innovative technology and leveraging oversight from industry experts,” said Carpenters President Frank Libby. “For anyone considering buying or even remodeling a home, Built to Last – The Green Home will change how they consider home options now and in the future.”
