Search Warrant Yields One Arrest, Meth, and Money
Public Information Release
July 26, 2011
Captain James Bauman, Public Information Officer
The service of a search warrant by the Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force on Saturday morning has resulted in one arrest and the seizure of nearly 1/2 ounce of methamphetamine, controlled substance sales paraphernalia, and over $2,000.00 in currency for asset forfeiture.
On July 14th, 2011, narcotics detectives secured a search warrant for the person and home of 47 year old David Gale Wheeler. On Saturday morning, July 23rd at approximately 7:00 am, detectives served the warrant at Wheeler’s home in Kelseyville with the assistance of officers from the California Highway Patrol.
After announcing themselves repeatedly at the front door, narcotics detectives received no response from inside and forced entry into the home. Detectives located Wheeler lying in bed in the master bedroom and while he initially refused to obey their commands, he was subsequently detained without incident.
During a search of the home, detectives located a small handbag at the head of Wheeler’s bed. The handbag contained nearly 1/2 ounce of methamphetamine individually packaged for sales, a digital scale, $2,000.00 in currency, and other packaging materials. Another baggie of methamphetamine was found concealed in a bedroom dresser drawer and a glass “meth” pipe was located on a nightstand. Detectives seized additional currency from Wheeler’s wallet. All of the currency found in the home was seized as the suspected profits of drug trafficking.
Wheeler was arrested and transported to the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility. He was booked for possession of a controlled substance for sales and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
The Sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force will continue its efforts to eradicate narcotics from the communities of Lake County and seize the suspected profits of drug trafficking for asset forfeiture whenever possible. Anyone with information that can assist the Task Force with this effort is encouraged to call the anonymous tip line at 263-3663.
