Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott announces the arrest of a man accused of shooting another man after a verbal altercation last month.

19-year-old Jarquis Bernard Davis (DOB: 9/6/1991) turned himself in to Columbia Police Officers at the Columbia Police Department yesterday morning. Davis is being charged with Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Violent Crime.

Davis and second suspect, 21-year-old Desmond Hakeem Mayo,
(DOB: 11/21/1989) are accused of being involved in a shooting that occurred on May 5, 2011 at a residence located at 4219 Grand Street. Mayo is also charged with Attempted Murder.

When Columbia Police responded to the crime location around 2:30 in the morning, they located the victim who was shot multiple times. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he is still in critical condition.

Columbia Investigators believe that Davis and Mayo are acquainted with the victim and a verbal altercation occurred prior to the shooting. Davis is currently in jail on a $500,000.00 Surety Bond
