SMPD Detectives Get Creative to Track Down and Arrest Burglary Suspect

On May 27th, at about 4pm, a residential burglary was committed in the 1500 block of Jasmine Street in San Mateo. Jewelry and selected other items were taken. In his hurry to exit the residence, the suspect left behind his mobile phone near the scene.

Detectives were able to identify the owner of the phone - and the suspect in this case - as Jason Davis, a 34 year-old Walnut Creek resident.

San Mateo Police Detectives picked up the investigation, and noticed continued text messages appearing on the phone from a subject who they discovered was a female associate of the suspect. Posing as good Samaritans, the detectives made an arrangement to return the phone to the associate in the City of Pleasanton.

On the morning of 6/1/11, detectives met with the associate in Pleasanton. She was accompanied by a male subject who matched the description of Davis. Detectives contacted Davis during the exchange, and Davis fled on foot, only to be quickly apprehended by SMPD Detectives. The property from the burglary was not located and detectives suspect that Davis sold or traded the property prior to the arrest. Davis was arrested, and ultimately booked into San Mateo County Jail for Burglary.
