Today's siren test at 1:30 will be a full 3 minute test of all sirens in Wood County.
When the sirens in Wood County are tested today at 1:30 it will be a full 3 minute test. Personnel will be in position at each siren to confirm they are working properly. One siren failed during Sunday's storm, it had been struck by lightening earlier, so we want to test all of them to make sure the warnings get out when needed. Typically every Wednesday at about 1:30 we will do a short test of the sirens. Remember that anytime you hear the sirens sound it means that you need to tune to your local media sources for updated information. The sirens will be sounded for Severe Weather and Tornadoes but can also be used for other emergency situations such as an explosion, chemical/haz-mat situation or major local/national emergency. Hearing the siren doesn't mean run to the basement, it means find out why the siren is being sounded. In today's Daily Tribune there is an article about the sirens and I would encourage you to pass that along to friends and family to help us educate everyone on the use of the sirens. http://www.wisconsinrapidstribune.com/article/20110525/WRT0101/105250631/Wood-County-authorities-urge-residents-heed-sirens-warnings-during-stormy-weather?odyssey=tab|topnews|img|FRONTPAGE
