TURN IN YOUR UNWANTED PRESCRIPTION DRUGS ON APRIL 30TH

On April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Napa Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. We are offering four locations for people to drop off their unwanted medications. Our locations are:

• Napa Sheriff’s Office 1535 Airport Blvd. Napa
• American Canyon Police Department 911 Donaldson Way, American Canyon
• Yountville Regional Office 1950 Mulberry Street, Yountville
• Angwin Regional Office (May 1, 10 am to 2 pm ONLY-Not Saturday) 100 Howell Mountain Rd.
-Calistoga is holding their own event on Saturday, at the Police Department, from 10am to 4pm.

Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—may pose potential safety and health hazards.

***Tablets, capsules, and all other solid dosage forms will be collected.
***Intravenous solutions, injectables, and syringes will NOT be accepted.
