Burglary Suspect Apprehended in Forest Hills Neighborhood Late Tuesday Evening

Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott announces the arrest of Michael Lawrence Clea for Burglary, Auto Breaking, and Larceny this past Tuesday Evening.

Chief Randy Scott would like to reemphasize to everyone that “Your Call Counts” because in this incident it was a phone call from a concerned citizen which provided police essential information that helped in the apprehension of this suspect.

On April 12, 2011 at approximately 11:13 pm Columbia Police Officers responded to a burglary that had just occurred on the 3000 block of Girardeau Street. A witness heard footsteps outside, looked out and saw lights flashing on her neighbor’s vehicle. The vehicle had just been broken into and the doors on a tool shed near by had been forced open as well.

Responding Police Officers canvassed the neighborhood and found the suspect pushing a generator near Forest Drive and Glenwood Road. The suspect was stopped and detained. The victim positively identified the stolen property and the suspect was arrested. The suspect was interviewed by investigators and transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Chief Scott encourages homeowners to contact the Columbia Police Department to schedule a residential burglary assessment by contacting the Crime Prevention Unit at 803-545-3553. Chief Scott recommends good locks, simple precautions, neighborhood alertness and these home safety tips to help prevent your home from being burglarized:
