Suspect accused of 2008 rape on Compton Court Property, charged Thursday after arrest in Palmdale

On Nov. 28, 2008, a 43-year old Hispanic woman was brutally raped and robbed on the property of the Compton Superior Courthouse in an outside area out of view. Evidence relating to a sexual assault was obtained from the victim and submitted to the Scientific Services Bureau (Crime Lab) of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

At the time of the incident, the victim was unable to identify the suspect.

On Nov. 1, 2010, gang investigators from the Compton Sheriff 's Station, Operation Safe Streets Bureau received a letter from the California State Department of Justice (DOJ), Cold Hit Outcome Project dated Oct. 22, 2010. The letter indicated that based upon a DNA evidence sample that had been submitted for a search in the California-DNA (CAL-DNA) Data Bank, that there was a candidate match to an offender profile in the database. The offender sample profile and the match was confirmed by the State Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) Lab, California Department of Justice, Jan Bashinski DNA Laboratory.

The California Department of Justice matched the DNA sample as associated to Suspect Paul Lorenzo Madry, a 23 yr-old Black male.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Suspect Madry is a gang member who had lived in the Compton area in 2008, specifically very close to the Compton Superior Courthouse. About a year later he moved to the Palmdale area.

A surveillance was conducted by sheriff's investigators and the suspect was arrested on November 30, 2010, as he exited his home in Palmdale.

Suspect Madry had been arrested by Palmdale Sheriff's Station deputies for burglarizing DVD's from a retail store on July 23, 2010. As a result, he was required to provide an oral DNA swab, pursuant to state law. Prior to the July 23, 2010, arrest, Suspect Madry had only been arrested for misdemeanor crimes. It was only through this latest arrest and the law requiring felony arrestees to provide such DNA, that Madry was identified as the suspect in this brutal crime.

On Thursday, April 7, 2011, during the preliminary hearing, Madry was formally charged with Kidnapping (209(b)(1) PC), Forcible Oral Copulation (288A(c)(2) PC), Forcible Rape (261(a)(2) PC) and Second Degree Robbery (211 PC). The maximum sentence Madry could receive if convicted is life in prison.

Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to call Detective Gail Durham at the Compton Sheriff's Station (310) 605-6518. Or if you wish to remain Anonymous, call "LA Crime Stoppers" by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org
