PRESS RELEASE

Date of Event: March 29, 2011

Location of Occurrence: 800 Block of Hutchinson Rd., Walnut Creek

On March 29, 2011, the City of Walnut Creek, the California Highway Patrol, Northgate High School, and various other emergency services agencies will be hosting the “Every 15 Minutes” program. As a part of the program, we will be staging a traffic collision on the 800 Block of Hutchinson Road in Walnut Creek. On March 29, 2011, Hutchinson Road will be closed to through traffic from approximately 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. “No Parking” signs will also be posted in areas immediately surrounding the area where the collision will be staged. A CalStar helicopter, several fire engines, police vehicles and ambulances will be participating to assist in the simulated DUI collision.

The “Every 15 Minutes” program is a two-day event and will be presented to high school juniors and seniors through several simulated but realistic emotional experiences. The program will challenge teens to think about drinking, driving, personal safety, the responsibility of making mature decisions, and the impact their decisions have on family, friends, and many others. The program brings together a broad coalition of interested local agencies with the goal of reducing alcohol-related incidents among youth. The partnering of the California Highway Patrol, local law enforcement, local hospitals, emergency medical responders, schools, businesses, and service clubs validates the importance of working together to ensure a healthy community.

If you are interested in learning more about the “Every 15 Minutes” program, Northgate High School will be hosting a Community Meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday March 31st, 2011 in the Northgate High School Lecture Hall. A video of the two-day event will be presented, and program participants will be available to discuss alcohol related issues and answer questions about the program.
