On 3/18/2011 deputies stopped a vehicle after a high speed chase recovering stolen property in the process.

News release

On 3/18/2011 at around 1:49pm Deputy Sparks and Herman from the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office were in the City of Vassar and observed a vehicle that had improper plates. The vehicle was occupied by 5 individuals. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle for the traffic violation and the vehicle failed to stop. A high speed chase ensued. The chase led out of the City and into Vassar Twp where the vehicle finally stopped.

The driver, 21 yr old Jason Witherell from Vassar was taken into custody. During the investigation stolen property and marijuana were found.

Witherell was lodged at the Tuscola County Jail for fleeing and eluding, breaking and entering, larceny in a building, possession of marijuana, operating a vehicle with no insurance, improper plates and unregistered vehicle. Bond is set at $5000 and a preliminary exam is scheduled for April 4th.
