HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA
500 AM PDT TUE MAR 22 2011

...MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY AS WELL AS
A STRONGER STORM THURSDAY COULD RESULT IN FLOODING IN THE SAN
FRANCISCO BAY AREA AND MONTEREY BAY AREA...

A PACIFIC STORM IS FORECAST TO MOVE INTO THE SAN FRANCISCO AND
MONTEREY BAY AREAS TONIGHT INTO WEDNESDAY. ANOTHER STORM WILL FOLLOW
ON ITS HEELS ON THURSDAY. THESE SYSTEMS HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BRING
MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN ACROSS THE REGION. GUSTY SOUTHERLY WINDS WILL
ENHANCE RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS IN FAVORED LOCATIONS. RECENT RAINS
HAVE SATURATED THE SOIL ACROSS THE REGION...SO ANY ADDITIONAL
MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN WILL RUN OFF QUICKLY AND LEAD TO RAPID RISES
ON AREA RIVERS AND STREAMS. THE GREATEST POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING WILL
BE IN LOW LYING URBAN AREAS AND ALONG SMALL STREAMS AND CREEKS.
THERE IS ALSO THE POTENTIAL FOR LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING IF
ESPECIALLY INTENSE RAIN RATES OCCUR.

THIS HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK IS INTENDED TO HEIGHTEN AWARENESS OF ADVERSE
WEATHER EXPECTED WITH THIS UNFOLDING WEATHER SITUATION. STAY TUNED
TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR YOUR FAVORITE SOURCE OF WEATHER
INFORMATION. CHECK THE NWS WEBSITE AT WEATHER.GOV/SANFRANCISCO.
