Ofc. MacDonald attended Crime Free for Hotels/Motels training presented by the Hayward Police Department.
SCU responded to a request for assistance from Newark PD as they were investigating a gang related shooting in their city.
5:00 PM - Patrol was dispatched to a forgery in progress at the Chase Bank (Fremont and Mowry) which turned into a vehicle pursuit n/b 880. SCU (Street Crimes Unit) responded to the last known location of the suspect vehicle and located it entering n/b 880 from Whipple in Union City. A vehicle take down was successfully performed resulting in the arrest of the driver without incident. The passenger fled and was in the process of jumping off of the overpass when he realized it was almost a 100’ drop (Mistake #1). He then tried to tackle Ofc. Farmer (Mistake #2) and then began throwing punches (Mistake #3). Sgt. Severance and Ofc. Farmer were able to take the suspect into custody after a brief, but intense, fight. No one was seriously hurt.
