I was contacted today by a member of the Windermere Crime Watch who had received a phone call from a person who claimed to be with the "crime watch association." The person was inquiring if the resident had a home alarm system. The resident stated that he did indeed have an alarm system, and the caller disconnected.

I did do some research on the number used to make this phone call and saw some online complaints of similar incidents. The caller's identity has not been verified.

Currently, I am not aware if this is a legitimate company, however, I do know that no alarm company is associated or endorsed by any of our crime watch groups or the Berks-Lehigh Regional Police Department.

In short, stay away from ANY business that uses deceptive practices in order to secure new clients. There are many legitimate companies that will secure your home and provide excellent service as well. Talk to friends, family, and neighbors, and do reasearch such as visiting the website for the Better Business Bureau.
