WELLS FARGO BANK DONATES $35,000 TO SAN MATEO POLICE ACTIVITIES LEAGUE
Money to Fund Scholarships for San Mateo PAL Youth

February 15th, 2011 1:30pm –
Hillsdale Branch of Wells Fargo Bank
2950 South El Camino Real - San Mateo, CA

Wells Fargo Bank today continued an ongoing partnership by making a $35,000 donation to The San Mateo Police Activities League. Since 2007, Wells Fargo has donated over $86,000 to the San Mateo Police Activities League. These donations allow PAL to provide dynamic and research-based prevention and intervention programs for youths of this community.

“Every dollar that PAL spends on our youth is roughly equivalent to seven dollars that we don’t spend on the criminal justice system later on. Reduced criminal behavior among juveniles saves lives and enriches families,” says San Mateo Police Chief Susan Manheimer. "Through PAL, we are getting kids out of gangs and off the streets!"

The donation from Wells Fargo will be utilized in its entirety for the PAL Scholarship Program. Scholarship funds will be awarded to deserving PAL youths that want to enroll in local community colleges. Most of the youths in PAL programs have not even thought about college when they started in these programs. However, after PAL provides them with a positive youth development program and healthy role models they start thinking about their future, and the contributions they can make.

"Busting my buttons" that’s what my Dad would say when he was proud of me. That's what I am saying about Wells Fargo's generous donation. In these tough economic times, we do not want our youths' decision to seek higher education to be solely dependent on their financial situation and Wells Fargo helped achieve that goal for our kids,” said PAL Board President Scott Poms, “Their donation today has allowed San Mateo PAL to be more proactive in getting our youths to continue their education in addition to encouraging them.”

“It’s an honor to serve as a board member for San Mateo Police Activities League,” said John Adams, executive vice president of Wells Fargo’s Northern California Division Commercial Banking Group. “And it’s my pleasure to serve with committed volunteers and dedicated officers who are making our community a better place.”

San Mateo PAL offers a sincere “Thank You” to John Adams and Wells Fargo for continuing to be a great community partner helping San Mateo PAL to make a difference one youth at a time.
