If you ever call 9-1-1, you will connected with trained LAPD Emergency Operators. Try to remain calm and do not hang up. Even if you dialed 9-1-1 by mistake, do not hang up; because if the call went through and you hang up, the operator will be required to dispatch a police car.

In Los Angeles, a good non-emergency number is 1-877-ASK-LAPD. Some "smart phones," do not have the correct corresponding numerals for "ASK LAPD." So it is useful to know that 1-877-ASK-LAPD, is 1-877-275-5273.

At this non emergency number you can select several options, including a zip code locator to help find the nearest LAPD Police Station. This is helpful if you are away from Mission Area. The telephone number to Mission Area is 818-838-9800.

Sometimes people have information that would be of great help to a Detective. Perhaps the person feels that the police must surely already have the information or they may fear that a police car will show up at their house.
