"Two separate incidents of a man approaching/annoying children in the neighboring communities of Hidden Hills and Calabasas appear to be the same suspect," said Lost Hills Sheriff's Station Detective Matt Dunn.

The public is asked to view the sketchES of the suspect(S) and of two possible suspect vehicles, and immediately notify detectives of any information that could possibly help identify the suspect(S).

The first incident occurred at about 12:30PM near Round Meadow Rd. at Jed Smith Rd. in Hidden Hills, on Wednesday, January 19, 2011. A ten year old boy was walking home from a nearby elementary school when he was approached by the suspect driving a white Chevrolet Van with a yellowish ladder on top (similar to the photo). The suspect leaned toward the open passenger’s side window and told the victim that he had been sent to pick up the boy by his mother. The boy ignored the suspect and kept walking. The suspect drove away. The boy reported the incident to his father as soon as he got home.

The second incident occurred a week later at about 1:00PM on Wednesday, January 26, 2011. An 11-year old girl was walking home from a nearby park inside The Oaks gated community in Calabasas, when she was approached by the suspect driving a Red Nissan Titan (similar to the photo).

THE BED OF THE RED NISSAN TITAN HAD A LAWNMOWER, GRASS TRIMMER, AND RAKE. LAST SEEN WITH A PINE TREE AIR FRESHENER HANGING FROM THE REARVIEW MIRROR, A ROUND BLACK STICKER ON THE LEFT QUARTER PANEL BETWEEN THE WHEEL AND THE TAILLIGHT, AND ANOTHER ROUND ORANGE STICKER WITH GREEN WRITING ON THE TAILGATE (POSSIBLY COMPANY LOGOS).



The suspect drove alongside the victim and made the same statement that was said to the first victim. The suspect told the girl he was asked by her mother to pick her up and give her a ride. The girl ran down the street and hid in nearby bushes, and the suspect drove away. She quickly went home and reported it to her parents. **SEE NEW SKETCH**

Approaching and annoying children can be a criminal act and detectives would like to question the suspect regarding his intentions.

"We don't know for certain what the intentions of the suspect are, but his actions cause considerable concern," said Detective Matt Dunn.

The suspect is described as a 40-50 year old Hispanic male, and he possibly has a moustache.

**UPDATE** BOTH SKETCHES ARE NOW AVAILABLE. THERE ARE SEVERAL REASONS WHY DETECTIVES BELIEVE THE TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS APPEAR TO BE THE SAME SUSPECT. AMONG THEM ARE THE TIMES, PLACES, STATEMENTS, AND OTHER FACTORS.



One child reported the suspect has a silver tooth on the upper left side of his mouth, while the other child reported he had a tattoo on his right forearm/wrist. HE POSSIBLY HAS A SPANISH ACCENT.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (http://www.missingkids.com) offers the following safety tips for parents to discuss with their youngsters:

Travel with a friend, or better yet, a group of friends when riding your bike or walking to or from school or other destinations.

If a stranger offers you a ride somewhere, say no, and run away. Adults should define "stranger" and give safety tip examples to help youth, especially young ones, know what you mean.

If someone follows you on foot, get away as quickly as you can. Go to someone's house you know, or run to other people, or just run away.

If someone is following you in a car, turn around and go in the opposite direction or take a path where a car would not go.

Never leave school or any other extracurricular activity or event with someone who makes you feel uncomfortable. Moms or dads should tell their youngster that it is okay in these circumstances to not ride home, but that also means adults should have an established communications method along with these safety tip guidelines so that the kid does not end up stranded or alone.

If a stranger tells you that there is an emergency or that a family member is hurt or that a pet has been in an accident, always check with your mom or dad or other trusted adults. This is a common trick used by many molesters or kidnappers.

More safety tips:

Adults should establish "safe houses" where kids feel comfortable in knocking on their door at any time a situation warrants it. Be sure to get approval from the neighbors/homeowners first before designating a home as a "safe house." If possible, have a neighborhood safety tip meeting and have residents agree to watch after one another.

Parents should be cautious about blatant use of a child's name on a back pack or jacket. Kids sometimes believe that a person can't be a stranger if they know them by name, when the reality is that their name was easily readable on their attire or the individual heard a youngster's name mentioned.

Adults should understand that boys are at just as greatest of risk as girls. It is a common safety tip misconception that child molesters or perpetrators are typically men and seek only girls. Molesters come in all ages and both genders, and their victims can be of either sex.

Parents should begin reinforcing these safety tips as soon as a kid is old enough to understand, and above all, ensure that their child feels comfortable enough in discussing these issues, their concerns or fears, or any potentially inappropriate events that have possibly transpired. Awareness of these safety tips can help kids be less susceptible to any stranger dangers.
