On January 26th, 2011 at 11:06pm Zone 2 Officers responded to the 4500 block of Butler Street (Salac’s Tavern) for the report of a bartender who sustained a gunshot wound to the head. A PBP Arson detective was the first to arrive on the scene found the front door of the establishment locked but could hear screaming inside. The Detective attempted to gain entrance by kicking the door which met with negative results. A key holder arrived at the scene and opened the door. The Detective observed a male shot in the head but appeared to still be alive. The victim was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition and pronounced deceased a short time later.

Homicide reported that it appeared to be an apparent self inflicted gun shot wound but the case is still under investigation and awaiting the Medical Examiner’s determination on the cause of death. A .357 revolver was recovered at the scene.

The deceased is a w/m, 52yo from the Morningside area. The identity of the victim has not been released by the Medical Examiner at this writing.
