THREE YEARS LATER – TGI FRIDAY’S MURDER
SMPD Actively Seeking the Community’s Assistance

On the morning of January 21, 2008, Doug Castello, a popular, well liked night manager at TGI Friday's in San Mateo, was found deceased inside the TGI Friday’s restaurant by the morning accountant. Castello died of blunt force trauma to the head. It is still not known if robbery was the primary motive for the murder. It is also not known whether Castello knew his attacker or how in fact, he originally came into contact with the suspect or suspects. SMPD has actively investigated this case for three years and has tirelessly explored all leads that have arisen.

This remains an active and open investigation and there is still a $40,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction for those responsible for Castello's murder. San Mateo Police Department, as always, places the highest priority on open homicide cases, and will continue our investigation until the perpetrator(s) are identified and brought to justice.

This incident occurred at the TGI Friday’s Restaurant at 3101 South El Camino Real in San Mateo on January 21, 2008, a Monday morning. The homicide is believed to have occurred sometime between closing and about 5am. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the San Mateo Police Department at any of the numbers below:
