Novi Police promote two staff to key leadership positions.

Novi, Mich., December 11, 2009 – Earlier today, Sergeant Jerrod Hart was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and Detective Scott Baetens was promoted to the rank of Sergeant with the Novi Police Department.

An eighteen year veteran of the force, Lieutenant Hart previously served as a Uniform Patrol Sergeant, an Investigator in the General Services Division and as the first School Resource Officer in Novi High School, helping to create a long standing partnership between the Novi Police Department and Novi Community Schools.
Lieutenant Hart began his career with the Novi Police Department in 1991 after graduating from Ferris State University with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. He is currently working to obtain a Master of Arts degree in Police Administration, also through Ferris State University. Throughout his tenure, Lieutenant Hart has held numerous assignments, including serving as a Field Training Officer and Range Instructor. He previously served on the West Oakland Major Crime Task Force and has received numerous Department Meritorious Service awards, as well as the MADD Lifesaver Award in 1992, 1993, 1994.

"I am very proud of Lieutenant Hart and am honored to have had the opportunity to promote him to this key leadership position within our organization," said Novi Chief of Police David E. Molloy. "He continually demonstrates a strong commitment to teamwork, has the highest ethical values, and is dedicated to the mission and vision of the Novi Police Department. We are very fortunate to have him as a member of our team and a part of our community."

Sergeant Scott Baetens previously served as an Investigator in the General Services Division where he had key roles in several important investigations and in the training of colleagues.

Sergeant Baetens is a life long resident of the City of Novi and has been a member of the Novi Police Department since 2001. Before joining the Novi Police Department, he attended Michigan State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice, graduating Cum Laude. During his time at the Novi Police Department, Sergeant Baetens has quickly proven himself in several capacities. While in the General Services Division, he quickly became a skilled investigator and developed specialized technological skills, including the Total Station and Evidence Tech training.

“Having the opportunity to watch Sergeant Baetens develop from a patrol officer, to a detective and now to achieve the rank of Sergeant brings me and the organization much pride,” notes Chief Molloy. “He demonstrates a strong commitment to teamwork and I look forward to working with him in his new assignment.”
