PITTSBURGH –On Friday, January 14th, 2011 at 12:47AM, PBP Zone 6 K-9 Officer was on patrol in Beechview. The K-9 vehicle was stopped on Espy Street at Wenzell Avenue when a gray Pontiac Bonneville PA Registration HHF-5155 passed the Officer with an inoperable left headlight. The Officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop when the Officer observed the vehicle make a quick and uncontrolled left turn fish-tailing onto LaSalle Street. The Officer activated the lights and siren attempting to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle refused to stop instead initiating a pursuit.

The Officer pursued the vehicle the whole length of LaSalle Street. The Officer then observed the vehicle round the bend on LaSalle onto at a high rate of speed and then travel onto W. Liberty Avenue, ignoring the posted stop sign, while crossing both lanes of traffic traveling in the oncoming lanes. The vehicle then traveled up Key Avenue turning into a parking lot in the 1400 block of Key running through a large set of hedges and finally slamming into a front porch. The driver exited the vehicle fleeing on foot. A perimeter was established by responding police units and a search was made which met with negative results. McGann & Chester towed the vehicle.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Zone 6 at 412-937-3051. Callers may remain anonymous.
