PITTSBURGH On Monday, January 10th, 2011 at 9:05 PM, Zone 4 Officers were dispatched to the 400 N. Lexington Ave (Allegheny County EOC) for a report of an abandoned 3 month old baby. Upon arrival Officers were met by the night Intake supervisor and the reporting person who had with her the baby (male infant) who she reported was left abandoned on a front porch.

The reporting person reported to Officers that she went to an address in the 500 block of N. Beatty Street to pick up a family member. When she entered the residence she heard an argument. She reported that during the argument the mother left the home with the child and returned setting the child on the porch leaving it in the freezing temperatures wearing only a filthy soaked diaper. The mother was no where to be found. The reporting person recovered the child and proceeded to EOC for help. The medics were notified and transported the baby to UPMC Children’s Hospital for further treatment and observation. It was determined by hospital personnel that the child had a severe case of diaper rash but appeared to have no other injuries or conditions that warranted medical attention.

CYF was notified and a caseworker arrived and took the child into custody. PBP Officers checked the residence to insure that there were no other children in danger or in the need of CYF or PBP intervention.

SAFC was notified. Commander Brackney arrived on scene and a warrant will be obtained for the mother. Anyone with further information should contact Zone 4 at 412-422-6520. Callers may remain anonymous.
