http://sheriff.lacounty.gov/wps/portal/lasd/media/detail/?WCM_GLOBAL_CONTEXT=/lasd+content/lasd+site/home/home+top+stories/2010_crime_rates_drop

The homicide "ratio" is not reflected as it does not show the substantial changes in population over the past 50 years in the areas policed by the LASD.

This report also does not include the tragedy and description of the circumstances of each homicide.

As of the end of November 2010, preliminary crime data shows that criminal homicides in Sheriff’s patrol areas have decreased by 12.5 percent, compared to the same year-to-date period last year (191 homicides last year compared to 169 this year as of the end of Nov.). This follows a five-year continuous decrease, resulting in a 50.49 percent decrease in homicides compared to five years ago, and the lowest homicide rate since at least 1975.

"Thank you to all of our community partners who work so closely with law enforcement to make Los Angeles County safer," said Sheriff Lee Baca.
