OUTSTANDING SMPD POLICEWORK RESULTS IN THE ARREST OF
SEVEN ROBBERY SUSPECTS THIS WEEK!

Week of December 11-17th, 2010 -

Bank Robbery – Chase Bank – December 11th:

On December 11th at about 2:55pm, San Mateo Police Department officers responded to a reported Bank Robbery at the Chase Bank located at 3590 S. El Camino Real. Bank employees confirmed that a bank robbery had occurred. None of the staff or customers were injured. The suspect was last seen fleeing the area on a bicycle prior to police arrival with an undisclosed amount of cash. SMPD Officers quickly secured the scene and conducted an extensive search for the suspect. The suspect was not located. SMPD Detectives and FBI also responded to assist with the investigation.

Working with significant investigative leads, SMPD Detectives were able to identify the suspect as 31 year-old Francisco Rodrigues of Redwood City. Rodrigues was located in Redwood City on December 16th, and arrested for the Bank Robbery. He was booked into San Mateo County Jail.

Robbery at the Peninsula Shell Station – 400 Peninsula Ave – December 12th :

On December 12th at about 8:33pm, SMPD Officers responded to investigate a robbery that had just occurred at the Peninsula Shell Station. The suspect had fled prior to police arrival, and no involved parties were injured. Video surveillance was available and indicated that the suspect might be the same suspect responsible for a similar robbery at that location on November 28th.

SMPD Detectives assumed the investigation and worked with surrounding agencies on similar cases in San Carlos and San Bruno. The suspect was ultimately identified as 29 year-old San Mateo Resident Marlon Arbulu. Arbulu was contacted and arrested in San Bruno on the evening of December 16th. He was booked into San Mateo County Jail.

Robbery at the San Mateo Zoo Barber Shop – 1226 S. El Camino Real – December 17th:

On December 17th at about 1:52 pm, numerous SMPD Officers and On-Duty Detectives responded to a reported armed robbery that had just occurred at the San Mateo Zoo Barber Shop. Four suspects had entered the barbershop and robbed the business and its patrons at gunpoint. The suspects fled the scene in an vehicle, and none of the involved parties were injured. An alert witness provided critical suspect and vehicle information, and SMPD officers quickly posted themselves strategically to intercept the suspects. SMPD Officers located the suspect vehicle on US 101, and stopped the vehicle as it exited at Ralston Ave. / Marine Parkway in Belmont. Three of the suspects were detained in the suspect vehicle, while the fourth suspect threw the firearm towards the 101 freeway and fled on foot. The fourth suspect was arrested after a brief foot chase, and the firearm was recovered. All four suspects were booked for armed robbery. Due to the ongoing investigation, names of the arrestees are unavailable at this time.

INCLUDING TUESDAY’S ARREST OF PAUL STOLIKER FOR TWO BANK ROBBERIES, SAN MATEO OFFICERS AND DETECTIVES HAVE ARRESTED SEVEN SUSPECTS THIS WEEK IN CONNECTION WITH SIX ROBBERIES – THIS REPRESENTS OUTSTANDING POLICEWORK BY YOUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT!

We at the San Mateo Police Department are aware that the Holiday Season often brings an increase in theft-related crimes. Although many of the above crimes appear not to be related with each other or associated with any pattern, SMPD reminds the Community to continue to monitor your surroundings for safety. Report any unusual circumstances to the Police. Information from aware citizens, as seen above, can sometimes be critical to the solving of crimes and bringing those responsible to justice.
