15 yr-old Hacienda Heights teen missing from Leo Carrillo State Park in Malibu after night hike alone

Note: As this message is being sent, there is a possible sighting of the missing youth. This has not yet been confirmed.

A 15-year old Hacienda Heights boy was reporting missing from Leo Carrillo State Park in Malibu this morning. Albert was camping with his father when he went for a hike alone with a flashlight at about 9:00PM on Saturday night (12/04/10). He has not been seen since.

Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station deputies were notified by California State Parks officials at 7:30AM Sunday morning that they had been informed of the missing youth.

Sheriff's deputies activated the Sheriff's Malibu Search and Rescue Team and Sheriff's Aero Bureau Air-7 helicopter, to assist patrol deputies and other hikers as they search for the missing teen.

15-year old Albert is Asian-American, has black hair, brown eyes, is 5’4”, and weighs 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green jacket and blue jeans pants and had a flashlight. He had no survival gear, water or cell phone.

He was camping with his father at Leo Carrillo State Park in Malibu. Apparently, it is not uncommon for the boy to go hiking at night. On Saturday night he told his father he was going to go hike the same trail he had hiked the day before. When his father got up this morning at 6:30AM, he saw that the teen had not returned.

Saturday night tempertures were in the high 40's and low 50's. There is a 20% chance of rain predicted for today, with a 60% chance of rain predicted for this evening.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Command Post for this search and rescue operation is in the Leo Carrillo State beach parking lot at the entrance.

"Volunteers interested in joining the search for Albert should report to the sheriff's department Command Post so that efforts can be coordinated and safety maximized," said Lieutenant Scott Chew of Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Albert should contact Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, at (818) 878-1808.
