Sheriff's Homicide detectives responded to the 4700 block of Hammel Street, East Los Angeles, to investigate the circumstances surrounding a Deputy-Involved Shooting that occurred at about 3:07PM, Wednesday, December 1, 2010.

The male Hispanic suspect was transported to a local hospital. His injuries are not considered to be life threatening.

No deputies were injured, reported Sheriff's Homicide Lieutenant Dave Dolson.

Whenever a Deputy-Involved Shooting occurs involving Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies, and it results in the wounding of a suspect, multiple independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. This includes a separate investigation by the Office of the L.A. Co. District Attorney, as well as investigations by the Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. Attorneys with the Los Angeles Office of Independent Review also respond to the scene, and have full access to the facts known to the sheriff's department throughout every phase of these thorough investigations. Once concluded, every aspect of the shooting is reviewed by the Sheriff's Executive Force Review Committee.
