Tuesday Night Fire Damages Apartment Unit In El Cajon

Late Tuesday night, just before 11:00 p.m., Heartland Fire Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call of a fire at the Lexington East Apartments located in the 2-hundred block of Jamacha Road in El Cajon. Firefighters from Heartland Fire & Rescue in El Cajon arrived on scene to find heavy smoke coming from the open front door of one of the apartment units. Fire crews quickly had the fire knocked down in 8 minutes, keeping it from reaching nearby apartments. An adult male, displaced by the fire, did sustained some burn injuries and was transported to UCSD Hospital.

Damage to apartment and its contents has been estimated at $60-thousand dollars. Cause of the fire is said to be carelessly discarded smoking materials in the bedroom area where the fire started. Firefighters from the San Miguel Fire Protection District also assisted in putting out the blaze.
