Potential for severe weather in the Chicagoland area Monday (11/22/10) afternoon and evening.

A STRONG COLD FRONT IS APPROACHING THE UNSEASONABLY
WARM...MOIST...AND UNSTABLE AIR MASS IN PLACE OVER NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA. THIS HAS BROUGHT THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS PRODUCING DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND HAIL AS WELL AS ISOLATED TORNADOES. A TORNADO WATCH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 600 PM CST FOR ALL OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST INDIANA...INCLUDING THE CHICAGO METRO AREA. A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNINGS HAVE ALREADY BEEN ISSUED FOR PORTIONS OF NORTH CENTRAL ILLINOIS THUS FAR. THE
THUNDERSTORMS THAT HAVE FORMED ARE MOVING RAPIDLY TO THE NORTHEAST AT AROUND 50 MPH. EXPECT THIS MOVEMENT TO CONTINUE WITH ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORMS THAT DEVELOP AS THE FRONT PUSHES TO THE EAST THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON INTO THE EARLY EVENING.

RESIDENTS ARE URGED TO KEEP INFORMED BY TUNING TO LOCAL TELEVISION AND RADIO MEDIA OR INTERNET WEATHER SITES.
