Candy Trail Leads Officers to Stolen Property

Modesto, CA- Police officers arrest two burglary suspects and recover stolen property, after following candy trail.

On Tuesday October 26th around 8 p.m., Modesto Police officers were called to the Best Electric business located at 1322 7th Street regarding an activation of a burglary alarm. When officers arrived, they discovered the window to the business was smashed and someone had stolen a candy dispenser machine. Officers reviewed the business surveillance cameras and discovered the crime was captured on video, which included the make and model of the suspect get-away truck.

Officers broadcasted the suspect vehicle description and at about 11 p.m., an observant Modesto Police community service officer spotted the suspect truck, in the area of 2nd Street and H Street. Officers arrived to the area and stopped the truck in the 100 block of Pine Street. As officers approached the truck they noticed spilled candy in the bed of the truck. The two suspects inside of the truck were detained and questioned about the burglary. Both suspects, John Se, a 29 year-old Modesto resident and Dushan Aranda, a 28-year-old Modesto resident, were discovered to be on probation.

Officers went to Se’s residence, also located in the 100 block of Pine Street, and found a candy trail leading to the front door. Inside the residence, officers located the candy dispenser machine. Se and Aranda had opened the machine and removed the coins from the candy vending machine.

Both Se and Aranda were booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for commercial burglary and probation violation. Se and Aranda are also suspected to be involved in other recent burglaries. Investigators will be following-up and additional charges may be filed.
