Special DUI Enforcement Planned for Halloween Weekend

MODESTO, CA - Officers from the Modesto Police Department will be deployed on special roving DUI saturation patrols during the upcoming Halloween weekend beginning on Friday, October 29 and continuing through Sunday, October 31. These operations are being conducted in order to crack down on drunk driving in the city’s ongoing effort to improve traffic safety, save lives, and prevent injuries.

Modesto Police will be conducting these “Zero Tolerance” operations to target those drivers who still don’t heed the message to designate a sober driver before their celebrations begin. Funding for the patrols is through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Since 2005, the number of alcohol involved fatalities has been dropping, thanks to efforts like these. But law enforcement and the public must continue to work toward zero deaths.

“Law enforcement officers are doing more to remove drunk drivers from California’s streets and highways thanks to our DUI traffic safety funding,” said Christopher J. Murphy, Director of the California Office of Traffic Safety. “But everyone can help make their communities safer. If you see a Drunk Driver – Call 9-1-1.”
