Man Arrested For Domestic Incident In Which Child Was Injured

UPDATE (12-2-09)

On Tuesday, December 2, 2009, Anthony George was arrested by the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Fugitive Task Force and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police on an outstanding Bench Warrant for a Domestic related incident that occurred on March 14, 2009. George was transported to the ACJ at 4:06AM

Based on the investigation and medical evaluations it has been found that the injury sustained by the toddler is not consistent with the statement provided by Anthony George. Investigators received information from medical personnel which indicates that the injuries sustained by the child are not consistent with a fall down the stairs. PBP Homicide detectives have applied for a warrant for Anthony George for one count each Aggravated Assault and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

On Sunday, November 29th, 2009 at 8:15PM, Zone 1 Officers responded to a 3200 block of Richardson Avenue for a report of a two year old child in respiratory failure. Medic 4 transported the badly injured female toddler to Children’s Hospital and is reported to be in very critical condition with head trauma. Medic 10 transported the other two toddlers who are listed stable condition. It is reported that the other two toddlers sustained a few bruises a busted lip. They were evaluated overnight and listed in good condition and since been released.

According to the investigation the children are identified as female triplets, age 2, who were being watched by the mother’s boyfriend while she was away from the home playing BINGO. The boyfriend reported to detectives that went up the stairs and the three girls followed. When he got to the top of the stairs he told the girls to stop playing on the stairs and to go back down. The children, during this time, were playing with their plastic toy high heel shoes which they were wearing at the time of the incident. The stairs, which were 14 steps high, lead from the first to the second floor of the home. The boyfriend reported that he turned around at the top of the stairs and told the children to go back down the steps. He reported that all three children were on the stairs and as one turned she bumped the other who bumped the third toddler and they all tumbled down the stairs with one of the girls tumbling all the way to the bottom hitting the landing.

The PBP Sex Assault and Family Crisis Unit are continuing the investigation of this incident and we will update the media as we are provided updates from Children’s Hospital. No additional information is available at this time.
