UPDATE: Loop Parkway to be closed 24hrs from 10AM Oct 22 - 5AM Oct 27. Use alternate routes.

Drawbridge Work Postponed Until Friday, October 22 Through Wednesday, October 27, Due to Predicted High Winds and Inclement Weather

The full, ‘round the clock closure of the drawbridge has been rescheduled to begin 10 a.m. Friday, October 22, 2010 and continue through 5 a.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010, in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County. Local emergency service providers, public officials, and area schools have been notified that the work has been rescheduled. Motorists are being notified of the rescheduled Loop Parkway Drawbridge closure via electronic roadway signs. Long Creek Channel access will remain open to mariners.

The Long Beach Road or Atlantic Beach bridges should be used as alternative routes during the Loop Parkway closure between October 22 and 27. As with most road and bridge projects, this repair operation could again be cancelled, postponed, or prolonged due to inclement weather. For 24/7 up-to-date traffic and travel information, motorists should call 511 or visit In addition, travel information can be obtained from the INFORM Transportation Management Center cameras at and on their hand held communication devices at

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) appreciates the patience and cooperation of motorists and the local communities while this important bridge operation is undertaken.
