ARREST MADE IN GANG-RELATED SHOOTING LAST WEEK

Modesto, CA – Investigators with the Central Valley Gang Impact Task Force and Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department have arrested an 18-year-old man believed to have been the shooter in last week’s gang fight in west Modesto. The fight and shooting on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, took place in the 1200 block of Ritsch Lane. One man was hospitalized for non-life threatening injuries, and two other female partygoers were seriously injured as well.

Detectives executed two search warrants and an arrest warrant early last Friday morning. The first took place in the 2200 block of Kenneth Ave. at approximately 7 a.m. Members of the Sheriff’s Department SWAT team and hostage negotiation unit participated in the search warrant on Kenneth Ave. They were not immediately able to locate their suspect, 18-year-old Jesus Orozco of Modesto; although, they were able to gather additional information eventually leading them to the 1100 block of Faustina. Detectives were able to locate the suspect, quickly established a perimeter, and safely took Orozco into custody. Both residences in west Modesto were searched, and evidence was located and collected to further the investigation.

Orozco was later booked into the Stanislaus County Men’s Jail for felonious negligent discharge of a firearm and criminal street gang activity. He is being held in lieu of $40,000 bail. Detectives stress the case is still open and the investigation continues. No booking photographs will be made available at this time given interviews are still being conducted. Detectives are still looking for those responsible for the assault on the two females injured at the party as well.
