MODESTO POLICE LAUNCH GANG HOTLINE

Modesto, CA – The Modesto Police Department has established a gang hotline. The phone number is (209) 524-7491.

The idea of a gang hotline was suggested to Vice Mayor Kristen Olsen by a Modesto resident in the summer of 2009. Modesto Police hope the hotline will encourage city residents to report gang activity in and around the around the City of Modesto.

Investigators believe the hotline will give citizens a safe avenue to report gang activity, rumors of impending gang violence, and tips about previous criminal gang activity without the fear of retaliation. Callers can remain anonymous, however they are encouraged to leave detailed information including about the location of occurrence and the people involved. Investigators will honor requests for anonymity.

The 24-hour hotline number is (209) 524-7491. Information provided via the hotline will be investigated by the Modesto Police Department Gang Investigations Unit. Substantial tips leading to the arrest of individuals responsible for violent crimes may be referred to Crime Stoppers for reward consideration.
