DO-1-THING

• Do-1-Thing is a 12-month program that makes it easy for you to prepare yourself, your family, and your community for emergencies and disasters. The do-1-thing program breaks the job of emergency preparedness into 12 smaller monthly pieces:

o Each month, the program focuses on one area of emergency preparedness and provides a variety of actions that you can take to become better prepared.

o If you do-1-thing each month, by the time a year has passed, you will have taken big steps towards preparing yourself, your family, and your community for emergencies and disasters.

• THE GOAL: Be prepared to handle emergencies without outside assistance for 72 hours.

o Do One Thing (choose one thing to do this month)

 Gather your emergency supplies in an accessible place.
 Stash some cash in case ATMs and credit card machines are not usable in a disaster.
 Create an emergency supply kit for your pet.
 Have at least one regular phone that is not cordless.
