TWO CRITICAL AFTER CRASH

Modesto, CA – A two vehicle collision left two people critical this morning. Police believe alcohol contributed to the collision and they are seeking witnesses to the crash.

At about 4:00 am on Sunday Modesto Police were called to a two-vehicle major injury collision at the intersection of Briggsmore Avenue and Coffee Road. When they arrived they found two badly damaged vehicles, a Suburban and a Dodge pickup.

Police believe there were two occupants in the Dodge pickup and four occupants in the Suburban at the time of the collision. Both adult occupants in the Dodge pickup suffered major, possibly life-threatening injuries. Those critically injured are only being identified as a 53-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman. Injuries sustained to the occupants of the Suburban are moderate and not believed to be life-threatening.

The Modesto Police Department Traffic Unit was called to the scene to investigate. The preliminary investigation suggests that the Suburban, driven by 31-year-old Modesto resident Jessie Murphy, was traveling at a high rate of speed westbound of Briggsmore Avenue at the time of the collision. A witness told investigators that they saw the Suburban driving at a high rate of speed as it failed to stop for a red signal light at the intersection of Oakdale Road and Briggsmore Avenue. Police are also following up on information that the Suburban was involved in another collision in the area of Parker Road and Held Avenue and possibly being chased by another vehicle.

Investigators determined that Jessie Murphy was under the influence and she was subsequently arrested for felony DUI. Investigators are seeking anyone who may have information about the collision or the circumstances leading up to the collision.

Police ask anyone with information about the collision to call the Modesto Police Department at (209) 572-9500 and ask for Officer Daniel Starr.
