Catalytic converter thefts. Call 911 if you see someone crawling under a vehicle with a battery powered saw

Catalytic Converter thefts in the area have skyrocketed.

This is what people need to know:

- We are experiencing a high number of thefts of catalytic converters (a vital part of a cars exhaust system)

- These thefts are occurring during working hours in commercial parking lots

- The thieves are targeting vehicles that they can crawl under such as vans and trucks

- Thieves are using battery powered reciprocating saws to cut the parts from the vehicle

- It only takes seconds to remove your catalytic converter this way - it can cost thousands of dollars to replace

- Catalytic converters are valuable because they contain trace amounts of platinum and rhodium

- If you see someone suspiciously crawling under a vehicle in your parking lot you should call 911 and try to get a description of the suspect vehicle and license plate

- Do not confront the suspects or let them know you are calling the police - we want to catch them!

Thank you,
