Voorhees is proud to be the first municipality on the east coast to offer the newest form of communication. Nixle it.

Voorhees Township is proud to be the first municipality on the east coast to offer a new form of communication to its residents. Voorhees has teamed with Nixle, a free service that allows residents to receive up-to-the-minute information where one lives, works or visits. Registered residents will receive real-time information from the township via the Nixle system. They may choose their desired level of information ranging from urgent public safety alerts to local traffic updates and community events. Choices are also offered regarding the method of notification, whether by text message or email. Nixle will allow our community to stay informed and connected.

Nixle is sending postcards to all homes in Voorhees to provide information about how to register for this free and secure service. The system is already operational and messages are being sent to registered residents.

Nixle is the first standardized, secure and certified communication platform for local police departments, municipalities and agencies to communicate important, neighborhood-level information to residents. It uses the same compelling model as social applications such as Twitter and Facebook, while adding the security that is critical to ensure information received by users is both trustworthy and accurate. Contact information will not be released to any other entity and residents can choose to stop receiving information or change their level of information at any time.

The Nixle system will allow our police to provide information about local traffic alerts, amber alerts, road closings, etc. It will also allow our administrative offices to provide information regarding community activities and events.

For more information about Nixle, visit their website at www.nixle.com.

Voorhees looks forward to connecting with residents in a new way. We strongly encourage our residents to take a few moments to register for this free communication system. Join us in working to keep our community safe and informed.

The Voorhees Citizens Cultural and Diversity Advisory Committee helps foster positive human relations through education and the encouragement of respect and understanding among our diverse population. The committee provides an opportunity for input from citizens of all races, ethnicities and genders in developing programs leading to a greater understanding of the value of a diverse community. The committee meets the second Monday of every month in Town Hall. Any Voorhees resident interested in serving on this committee should contact Committeeman Dean Mazurek at (856) 882-1176 or at [email protected].
