The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, Camp Pendleton, Sycuan Tribal Police, local law enforcement, hospitals and businesses is encouraging residents to participate in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

More than twenty sites throughout the County of San Diego have been selected to accept potentially dangerous unused, expired, and unwanted prescription drugs. From Imperial Beach to San Onofre, and Encinitas to Alpine, law enforcement officers and professionals will be standing by to accept unused prescription drugs with no questions asked.

In San Diego, in addition to the abuse of Vicodin, Adderall, Soma, Xanax, Ambien, Codiene, Methadone, and Fentanyl, OxyContin is rapidly becoming the drug of choice by children and young adults between the ages of 14 and 30. A significant number of young people, generally students between 17 and 25 years of age, are buying OxyContin from street level dealers in the United States, Mexico, and illegally over the Internet. Citizens can unknowingly supply dangerous drugs to their children through unused prescriptions in their medicine chests.

The event is planned from 10:00 a.m. through 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25th. Locations are listed below.
