Hwy 101 Update Montecito roundabout-striping lanes during the week, flagmen will be directing traffic www.sbroads.com

Planned Work Activities (depending on weather):
• Montecito roundabout: striping lanes during the week, flagmen will be in the area to direct traffic with 5 - 10 minute traffic delays during work; landscaping continues for roundabout and Old Coast Hwy
• Milpas St. nighttime closures as needed under Hwy 101 for bridge work Sun - Thurs, 9pm to 5am
Hwy 101 will continue to have 2 lanes open during the day in each direction.

Hwy 101 Bridge Widening over Milpas Street:
Crews will continue work on the bridge deck during the week. Sunday through Thursday nights, Milpas St. will be closed under Hwy 101 as needed between 9pm and 5am. During these closures, drivers can use the Mason, Quarantina, and Cacique Sts. detour (see map below). During the day and for the foreseeable future, Milpas St. will have one lane open in each direction under the Hwy 101 bridges.

Northbound Hwy 101:
Crews will continue footing and drainage work for the new sound wall along Hwy 101 between Salinas and Milpas Sts. Monday through Friday, Alisos St. will be open to local traffic only, 7am to 6pm, between Indio Muerto and Cacique Sts.

Median work will include widening shoulders and drainage improvements between Cabrillo Blvd and Milpas St. Work will continue on widening the northbound Hwy 101 off-ramp at Cabrillo Blvd. to expand the ramp to two lanes.

Southbound Hwy 101:
Crews will be working in the median on new shoulder and drainage improvements between Milpas St. and Olive Mill Rd. Crews are also building a new retaining wall to accommodate the widening of Hwy 101 at the southbound Hwy 101 off-ramp at Hot Springs Rd/Cabrillo Blvd.

Montecito Roundabout:
During the week, crews will continue striping the roundabout and connecting streets. Flagmen will be in the area to direct traffic, and motorists should plan on short delays during this time.

Crews will continue landscaping around the roundabout and along Old Coast Hwy during the week.

Ongoing Ramp Closure:
The southbound Hwy 101 off-ramp at Hot Springs Rd./Cabrillo Blvd. will remain closed for up to four months (January 2010). During the closure, drivers can use the Milpas St off-ramp as a detour. See map below.

Rideshare Incentives:
SBCAG, Caltrans, and the project team are encouraging drivers to reduce single-occupant vehicle trips during construction with the Curb Your Commute program. Curb Your Commute with incentives and resources to help you reduce your time on the road and improve your quality of life. Traffic Solutions is offering carpool matching, enhanced bus service, commuter cash incentives, free vanpooling and employer assistance. Visit the rideshare page on www.SBroads.com.

Project Information:
The Highway 101 Operational Improvements between Milpas and Hot Springs include the reconstruction of two major interchanges, six new or improved bridges, freeway widening, and improvements to local streets and pedestrian pathways. The $53 million construction and landscaping project is funded by Proposition 1B and $13 million Measure D dollars. This project is a joint Santa Barbara County Association of Governments, Caltrans, and City of Santa Barbara highway and local street improvement program.

The majority of construction will occur behind concrete barriers during daytime work hours; some nighttime lane closures will occur. Motorists should expect an estimated 10 minutes of added travel time in each direction.
